Farafra is located ~540/560 km from Cairo and about 500 km from Kharga, and
belongs to the New Valley. From the three Oases located in the New Valley,
Farafra is the least developed; however, development is visible in certain
parts of Farafra, 60,000 acres of land is devoted to new agricultural scheme,
which has brought many immigrants into Farafra. Food is locally grown and only
essentials that cannot be found in Farafra are imported from Cairo.
The water supply in Farafra is what keeps it quite primitive, however, with new
technology and development this will change over time. Farafra is the perfect
location for the desert lovers as it is located near the white desert, which
still lies undisturbed and has many secrets to share.
