Located in the Western desert you can find Kharga, the capital of the New
Valley and therefore the most developed. Kharga is located about 300 km from
Luxor and about 650 km from Cairo. Unlike the other 2 oasis, Kharga is buzzing
with life as here life in general is much more modern. Nonetheless, even due to
its modernization Kharga still has much to offer to the culture hungry.
Throughout history all the oases have been crossroads for the caravan routs,
however, this is most evident in Kharga, due to the chain of fortresses that
the Romans built to protect the Darb el-Arabia, the long caravan route running
from north to south between Egypt and Sudan. Kharga is full of ancient ruins
and artifacts which are displayed in Khargas museum.
In Dush our guests can find the Tabuna
camp that is surrounded by greenery and has an amazing view on the ruins of
the roman fortress. From here they can enjoy the desert life as well as
experience Egyptian history. |
